When
I was a child, there were very few karate schools around and even fewer
quality schools for kids. Karate started for me in my living room with
Bruce Lee Movies at the age of 10. I would move all the furniture out of
the way and do everything I saw Bruce Lee do on TV and then some! After I
drove my mom crazy asking about karate, she decided to sign me up, but we
could not afford the classes. So we tried every free class I could find.
At the YMCA, Boys & Girls Club, Local College, and even our Neighbors
Backyard! I started earning money through odd jobs and eventually met Doug
Meeks, a great martial artist who was five years older than me. As our
friendship grew, he decided to take me under his wing. I had found my
home! I could not get enough. I trained hard daily; my goal was Black
Belt.
Years later after countless hours of blood, sweat, and tears, I achieved my goal! I was already assisting my instructor by teaching classes at the age of 17. At the age of 19, I enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. While stationed on the East Coast, I began teaching and learning from my fellow Marines. In my many years of Martial Arts training, I have met the best of friends and was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to train and teach many styles of martial arts to all ages across the country. Taking everything I've learned, I decided to make my own program. Teaching children and adults safety awareness and smart self-defense was something I took great pride in. The next step was to capture the essence of my classes on video. This way, anyone in the same situation I was in as a kid would have the opportunity to learn the values of Martial Arts at home! Now, more than ever, it's important to give children the tools they need to be safe, secure, and successful in every day life. I am fortunate to be a positive role model to so many children and I look forward to continuing that role. Now I can teach thousands of children through my home training videos, sharing with them the importance of safety awareness and self-defense in a fun and positive environment!
